Extension Maintenance

Washing

  • Shampoo no more than 1-2 times per week.

  • Brush out extensions with a WetBrush before getting into the shower. This helps prevent deep tangles and matting.

  • Use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner.

  • Shampoo gently between the row, no need for vigorous scrubbing.

  • Don't pile hair on top of your head.

  • Do NOT use products with Keratin.

  • Do NOT use purple shampoo.

  • Use a leave in oil combo right after your shower and before brushing out your hair and extensions with a WetBrush (again).

  • When brushing hair, start from your ends and work your way up to the scalp.

  • Hold the hair in one hand (like a ponytail) and brush downward.

Styling

  • After washing, mostly air dry (if time permits) and then finish off with a blow dryer to smooth extension hair and help it to blend with your natural hair.

  • Tousle dry your hair 95% of the way (meaning no tugging with a brush, just use your hands/fingers). It's important to NOT round brush your hair from start to finish of your blow dry. That puts unnecessary tension on your beadwork at the scalp.

  • ONLY during the last few minutes of your blow dry, you can use a round brush and a small amount of tension to smooth your hair with the extension hair.

  • If you visit a Blow Dry Bar, please advise them to follow the same guidelines.

  • If curling your extensions, run the extension hair through the curling iron to smooth the hair once or twice, before placing curls. This will give your extensions a more polished look, close the cuticle, and prolong the life of your extension hair.

  • Overnight braids are a great option to obtain a 'heat free' wavy/beachy look.

Sleeping

  • Brush your hair out, apply oil, and then place it in a braid, loose low ponytail, or super loose topknot to keep your extensions tangle free.

Swimming & Other

  • After a few washes, the extension hair will expand and take on a more realistic hair texture.

  • Before getting into the pool or ocean, wet your hair and apply a leave-in conditioner. There are often minerals found in bodies of water that can react poorly with your extensions, causing dryness and discoloration. Keep your natural hair and extensions healthy and hydrated by using leave-in conditioners, hydrating balms, and hair oils to prevent your natural hair and the extensions from drying out and becoming discolored from the sun.

  • Brush each row individually before and after swimming to prevent matting and tangling. If you notice excessive tangling or shedding, please contact us, as these are quick fixes when addressed right away.

  • Carefully wear high ponytails & topknots. Always be mindful of pulling on your beads.

  • Avoid sunscreen on your extension hair as it will turn it a peachy color that's almost impossible to correct. If this happens, new hair is likely the only fix. Avobenzone & Octocrylene is the ingredient that reacts with extension hair.
